Fountain for St, Beuno's, Jesuit Retreat Centre, Tremerchion, N. Wales

Restoration & Renovation

Repairing broken or eroded stonework is one of the most satisfying parts of our work. Julie and I often share this work and she is a great expert at putting quite complicated pieces back together. Sometimes missing parts have to be re-carved and made to look old to match existing stonework.

We also renovate headstones; re-cutting, painting and gilding letters as required. We try to do this in the churchyard or cemetery without moving the stone as it is both cheaper for the client and with less chance of damaging the headstone.  Recently we have restored a number of war memorials in commemoration of the Hundredth Anniversary of the start of World War 1.

This fountain was made from an unused and de-consecrated Victorian altar languishing in the cellars of the retreat house. The challenge was to make an octagonal water feature out of what was a rectangular altar front.

Damaged White Rabbit Sculpture on, Llandudno. N. Wales.

This sculpture was unveiled in 1933 to commemorate Alice Lidell who met Lewis Carroll in Llandudno and who was the inspiration for Alice in Wonderland. The marble sculpture was vandalised and I had the work of re-carving parts of the statue patching up the base and re-lettering the dedication.

This plaster plaque had fallen off the wall and was broken in hundreds of pieces. Julie and I had the work of piecing it back together and re-carving some of the parts too damaged to put back.
